Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

It is now time for some pictures

Here goes:

The armies were as follows

UNA
Copperhead
Defender Snake
2 Fire Toads inc Newton
2 Fire Toads, sgt
Death Dealer Tacarms with laser, plus Epstone
Steel Tac Arms with laser, sgt
Shock TacArms with laser, sgt
Jam TacArms with laser, sgt
9 Steel troopers with missiles plus Borz
3x 9 Steel troopers with missiles, sgt
6 Wing Troopers with laser gun, sgt

Therians
Tiamat
Baal Golgoth, relay
Wraith Golgoth Alpha
Wraith Golgoth, relay
2x 3 Bane Golaiths, relay
Assault Goliaths, relay
9 Storm Golems with flamers plus Delta
9 Storm Golems with sonic guns plus Alpha
2x 9 Storm Golems with sonic guns, relays

Points were loosely equalised, I think there was a narrows UNA points advantage.

Scenario
To make things simple and get the game going we playe with no reserves, as both sides had a firepower army we didnt play to objectives either. All that can come later. Badger set up the terrain and chose sides, he is fair over this and so I let him just do it. there was plenty of low terrain, but crucially very little high blocking terrain we could hide a strider behind. we could get saves for the striders, but couldnt hide them entirely from any angle. This was the first use of his new 4x2 boards under construction which he brought over for me to see. Blocking terrain is on its way, but most of mine is fantasy based.

Turn 1.

I won the authority and chose to go second. This was because Copperhead had to come on first, I placed it in what cover I could. I fired at the unit on table doing some damage. It immediately got raped by a Baal Golgoth and later Bane Golaiths. Stark ejected and hid behind a crate. The first turn was especially bloody, my Steel TacArms immediately died after they first appeared even when in cover. One Wraith Golgoth was destroyed and some Goliaths, and the Baal golgoth was badly damaged. The Defender Snake arrived last and brutalised the last Wraith Golgoth with the closing salvo of the turn.

Turn 2.

I won the authority again and finished off the last Wraith Golgoth with the opening salvo. The Defender Snake was promptly destroyed and the Death Dealers reduced to half strength. One Fire Toad was lost and some Storm Golems were killed. The last Therian vehicles were killed, mostly with the help of the Jam TacArms Badger decided not to resurrect Tiamat. This was a wise play as it left me with plenty of anti cehicle weaponry but very little to deal with the goliaths and golems approaching.

Turn 3.

One Steel Trooper team was destroyed outright by flamer fire, the Shock TacArms were destroyed and I was reduced to one Fire Toad. My return fire was largely ineffective.
I lost a second Steel Trooper team and narrowly avoided losing Stark. Therians closed in on the flanks, still my returhn fire was poor, very few Goliaths had fallen and they took a brutal toll. I had only my Steel Troopers, Wing troopers one Fire Toad and Jam Tac Arms left. I had only three heavy guns that could effect infantry. I called a retreat at the beginning of turn four.

In conclusion a good game, my Death Dealers continued their laughable poor luck from the previous game, causing only two or three kills in each salvo. Badger really missed the leadership of Tiamat but I think he made a good decision in retrospect. tiamt is powerful but she could easily die again. All my steel trooper heavies are missile armed, and I have two ** striders and some Jam TacArms. I have no choice really, my army is heavil balanced at counter vehicle firepower. Next time I will counts as some of my missile teams. This should be no problem, during this game it weas assumed each Steel Trooper team had one medic and one mechanic, the Wing Tropers also had an invisible medic. I was to note down any sniper causalites on paper, the system worked well for now.

How did Tiamat die ? was it during CC , or on her way to your gun line?

I never knew tac arms have such a big butt from the photoed angle.

The table looks really nice btw , if only Carinilus sees this lol

Jam TacArms did her in. They are good at that.

With my current UNA army vehicles don't last very long. I didnt even need to laser designate, I used the ability twice I think. Big crawly things just got seen and die to up to seventeen seperate locked shots, plus thre Jammers.

I remembered late into the game that I could have used locked shot weapons to also destroy low walls, but that wouoldnt have made much difference, besides at that point I was losing missiles first when taking casualities.

Its not the too many missiles, its the lack of lasers. Fire toads cant easily hide and are very vulnerable and the Steel tac arms ate every bit of firepower until they died. Luckily for Badger they fluffed when they came on killing one Bane Golaith and got destroyed in the return salvo. It didnt matter the Assaults would have joined in if necessary.

I will be buying a second lot of Steel Tac-Arms soon, Wing attachment, a Fire Crawler and an extra Cobra. Also the spare Steel Tac Arm unused because I have the limited editon open suit has been taken apart. I will convert up a pair of Steel Troopers to take the laser guns, that should een things out a bit until reinforcements arrive and it my priority job for fixing up this army.

My Therians are getting a secnd Baal, while its cheap and two Wraith Golgoths converted into Kraken, plus some more Assault Goliaths.

Extra basic infantry? We will wait and see.

All this will be my Wave 3 after my Red Blok army comes in.

That sounds like a good chunk to buy next , but i cant help wander what the UNA army set would be (im not ordering till i see the next army box releases)

You have 4 steel tac arms atm?
how are the shock tac arms? (how does it fit with the rest of your army? do they start moving towards any CC units comming too close? )

Duncan was right about spamming the steel tacs , now both of us dont have enough :"P

Personally i dont really care for infantry in the game. however, since they are GREAT for warhammer IG veterans , its a win win situation to buy the army box.

I am guessing Copperhead, Fire Crawler and three infantry squads, possibly two full Steel Troopers and a small Wing Trooper unit.

Nope. I have four Tac-Arms, I have four Steel Troopers, I have one Steel TacArm.

LunaHound wrote:

They die too easily, they need to close but their numbers are too low to survive such a move. Nevertheless I like them. The powerlance is a side issue, its the flamers that matter. Jumping troops with flamers sounds good to me, I wont use them to assault unless I have to. Flamers really are deadly in AT-43, which is a good thing as real flamers are deadly too, we are too often fooled the by propane gas flamers seen in films, real flamers have suprisingly long range and are very potent. 40K doesnt do them justice, AT-43 does.

That aside my Shock TacArms have yet to fire, both times they got caught out, though in my first game they became a sacrifice unit to provide missile locks for other units, better them than my Death Dealers. In the second game I made a mistake and advanced to cover the wrong way, I should have flanked with them instead. I like them not for what their flamers do, but from what I have seen three flamers do to me. Someday soon it will be my turn and the Shock TacArms will be part of the revenge plan.

Yes more Steel Tacarms have been a part of the shopping list since that time. I haven't bought anything since the order at the beginning of the other thread, excepting a box of second hand Wing Troopers and a fourth Initiation boxset found cheap online.
I dont want to spam them though. too many Steel tacarms will be a crutch, I would like to take the others instead and have a more balanced force even if they only work at their alotted roles.

Infantry are great they are far more survivable at range. Yes the simple Damocles set vehicle rules I used gives them about 65% of true durability, but even so it takes a lot to shoot up Steel Troopers of Storm Golems in cover, the 3+ save really helps. Medics and routines also help here. Vehicles on the other hand can be easily killed. A lot of the talk on the other forums is about how striders get killed the turn they are exposed unless very lucky or revealed late. I already activate vehicles last then fierst to make the most of the time I have with them. But given some low walls and a take cover order my Steel Troopers are good to go and can take quite a pounding. It is only up close when fire volume or blast weapons kill infantry.

I will be buying more infantry to keep pace with my expanding vehicle selection. by the time I am done I might be collecting for 8-10k.

As far as 40K crossovers are concerned, I have been thinking of Red Blok IG, even just using Spetsnaz as Stromtroopers in my existing cadian army. They fit closer than UNA troopers do.

Meanwhile I found my Camel:

http://www.wargamesworkshop.com/ProductList.aspx?CatID=5&DivID=49&GrpID=231&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Its a bit small, but 8 Steel Troopers or 4 TacArms is not much.

and in time maybe my Soundounk:

Though I am still hoping to find a toy helicopter instead, something crude and ugly with a bulbous nose.

Great but I want all the Dragonovs I can get for At-43, besides Spetsnaz look more basic and ballsy and more like Kasrkin should. Also I have no reason to waste a ** infantry slot on them.

Personally I would keep a Valkyrie for 40K only, its just too recognisable to fit, the vehicles I showed above are all a lot cheaper and generic. As far as using Red Blok as Kasrkin, I would do some conversion work on them too, IG weapons for a start.

You know this thing is transparently a different scale and something would have to be done about the canopy to rescale it effectively. The model is also HUGE. One of the reasons I like the Corvus is that it is small and has really stubby wings, this makes it a practicle gaming piece. The above model would take up a sizable fraction of the gaming surface. I dont think the rules are ready for class ****** vehicles.

You make it sound expensive anyway, I think you got a bargain even for current AT-43 prices.

Here is a picture of the GI Joe, what I just ordered is the little unpainted VTOL in the same picture. Which is missing its rear canards in these shots.

I really want the Force XXI dropship shown here, but cant find it anywhere. The Force XXI website is offline. The Old Crow dropships look nice and are under half the price of a Valkyrie, methinks they have the no nonsense lines of a Red Blok vehicle.
